Engagement with Media to Feature Made in China Report

2025 January 7

On January 7, 2025, Deputy Director General Joanna Hosaniak participated as an expert panelist in the filming of Now On My Way to Meet You (이제 만나러 갑니다), a long-running television program on Channel A that features personal testimonies of North Korean escapees. A special episode of the show, titled I Was a Slave: Living Hell, Chongori Kyohwaso, focused on conditions inside Chongori Kyohwaso, one of North Korea’s most notorious detention facilities. During the episode, which aired on March 2, Hosaniak provided expert commentary on the systemic cooperation between China and North Korea in sustaining forced labor practices. She explained how North Korean escapees forcibly repatriated by Chinese authorities are funneled into detention facilities where they are exploited through unpaid labor. Goods produced under these conditions are then exported with their origins concealed—laundered through false “Made in China” labeling—enabling their circulation in global markets.
