Domestic and International Human Rights Awards
In recognition of its tireless efforts to raise awareness of the human rights situation in North Korea, and to promote solidarity between victims and citizens, NKHR has received the following honors:

2003: Democracy Award, presented by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), USA

2010: Yoon Hyun (Chairperson) awarded the Order of Civil Merit, Moran Medal by the Government of the Republic of Korea

2011: John Diefenbaker Defender of Human Rights and Freedom Award, presented by the Government of Canada

2016: DMZ Peace Prize (Exchange and Cooperation Award), presented by Gangwon Province and the Gangwon Ilbo

2018: Democracy Award, presented by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), USA

2023: Kim Young-ja (Secretary-General) awarded the Order of Civil Merit, Moran Medal by the Government of the Republic of Korea

2024: Joanna Hosaniak (Deputy Director General) awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland by the Government of Poland
