Made in China: Report Briefing Series for Foreign Governments

2025 April 9

On January 24, Deputy Director General Joanna Hosaniak briefed the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons at the United States’ Embassy in Seoul, focusing on system that could be classified as slave trade or state-sponsored human trafficking with a purpose to enslave the individuals, currently taking place between the DPRK and China.

On April 9, NKHR held a briefing to the diplomatic community in South Korea at the EU Embassy with the support of the German and EU Ambassadors in Seoul. Deputy Director General Joanna Hosaniak gave an in-depth brief on the NKHR’s newly released report, “Made in China: How Global Supply Chain Fuels Slavery in North Korea's Prison Camps.” It is to present detailed evidence of systematic and widespread crimes against humanity perpetrated within North Korea’s detention facilities, with a particular emphasis on Chongori Kyowaso No. 12, where products manufactured through enslavement of detainees are falsely labeled as “Made in China” and distributed globally. During a follow-up Q&A session, participating diplomats discussed the measures to collaborate with NKHR in the future and to stop the global distribution of goods produced through enslavement of North Korean detainees, as well as the funding situation of NKHR and the community at large.
