NKHR Featured on the APPG Briefing: "The North Korea-Russia-China Axis: Risks and Enablers"

📢 The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on North Korea hosted a briefing titled "The North Korea-Russia-China Axis: Risks and Enablers"

The event featured Joanna Hosaniak from Citizens’ Alliance for North Korean Human Rights (NKHR), who shared findings from 9 years of investigations by NKHR into the roles of China and Russia in enabling grave human rights abuses in North Korea. This includes their involvement in modern slavery and direct partnerships with North Korean security, military organs, and their trading companies—enabling both profit to institutions responsible for persecution of the North Korean population, and the sponsorship of North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Dr. Sarah Son of the University of Sheffield provided an insightful overview of the North Korea-Russia-China relationship, its context and implications for the international community, while Benedict Rogers from Fortify Rights offered recommendations to update the UN Commission of Inquiry’s 2014 milestone report by exposing these linkages.

We are deeply grateful to Rt Hon Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP and The Lord Alton of Liverpool for co-chairing the session and sharing insights on Magnitsky-style sanctions and the UK’s historical and current role in abolishing slavery. Extend special thanks to David Smith MP (UK Special Envoy for FoRB), the Lord Bishop of Winchester, Sir Julian Lewis MP, and Marie Rimmer MP CBE for their support of the meeting, and to Timothy Cho, Secretariat of the APPG North Korea, for his important work in making this event possible. Together, we continue to shine a light on the atrocities committed by North Korea and advocate for justice.
