NKHR released a new investigative report exposing a Russia-based network funding North Korea’s weapons programs through modern forms of slavery - "Financing Oppression and Weapons Program: Russia-North Korea Joint Venture Through Military and Security Forces".

➡️ Deployed to Russia on student visas to bypass UN sanctions:

North Koreans, including military personnel, sent as “students.” Over 100 North Korean companies deployed forced labor in Russia to earn foreign currency for Pyongyang.

➡️ Fake scholarships to weapon fundings:

- 76+ Russian Enterprises

- Sodeistvie College

- North Korea Missile Program

Sodeistvie College paid over $30M of so-called “scholarships” with some “students” receiving up to 66 times the Russian national average. The Agora Bank processing the “scholarships” is linked through owners to the top leadership of Russian Federation.

➡️ Slavery, sanctions evasion, and military financing form a single system coordinated by the top structures of the state”:

131 Nuclear Guidance Bureau, key North Korean nuclear weapons body, is directly tied to the scheme with the network centrally coordinated under Kim Jong Un.

➡️ How to Stop This System

- Designate North Korea as high-risk for forced labor. Cut ties with Russian companies, universities & banks enabling this exploitation

- Call for an independent expert mechanism to connect security and human rights. It's time to address the intersection of global threats and human dignity

- Strengthen sanctions designations, freeze assets of the perpetrators

It's time to connect global threats to human dignity
